History
22878 was new to Stagecoach’s Fife garage in 2009 as part of an order for 19 MAN Enviro 300s to join their existing fleet. The vehicle was branded for the route 19 (Ferrytoll to Ballingry) circa 2011 and remained as such till receiving a paint refresh in 2014, returning it to generic ‘Beachball’ livery.
In 2016 the vehicle was passed to the Cumbria & North Lancashire division of Stagecoach; where it was based at Morecambe’s Whitegate depot and deployed on local services in and around Morecambe and Lancaster.
878 was transferred to Carlisle Willow Holme Road in 2019 for its final stint in service. During its tenure it received a new Cummins engine in a bid to reduce emissions and improve reliability; and in 2022 was repainted into Stagecoach’s new ‘Local’ livery.
The vehicle entered our fleet in March 2025 not so much as a preservation project but because of its modern emissions status and high capacity, a vehicle to be hired out as required to support other operators and help fund the preservation of other vehicles in the fleet. In May of the same year, it was painted into the second version of the WBP livery and white Hanover destination displays installed. Work is ongoing to ensure that the vehicle stays PSVAR compliant and is to be fitted with a full passenger information system, including internal displays and announcements – all requirements to allow the vehicle to remain in public service.
