First Manchester 69154 - MX06 VOH
Delivered new to First Manchester in 2006, 69154 was part of a batch of 256 Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urbans ordered for Manchester in 2005 in hope of renewing the fleet and bringing the fleet age up to date, with high spec, low-floor vehicles. Featuring a wheelchair bay, double glazing, a 6 speed ZF Ecomat gearbox,it truly was the new era for public transport in Manchester, setting the standard across the network. Upon delivery, it was registered MX06 VOH and numbered 69154 in First's national numbering system.
The vehicle was allocated to Bolton's Weston Street depot and was immediately branded into the newly launched, overground network livery. Allocated to the 582, a high capacity and frequent service between Bolton Town Centre and Leigh, in the Wigan borough, 69154 remained (mainly) allocated to the 582 for the first few years of its life.
Whilst the branding was striking, featuring: the current ticket prices for daysavers, weekly and monthly tickets, local landmarks; and a route list. However, in late 2008, 69154 was debranded from the 582, freeing up the vehicle to work a wider range of Bolton's routes. Where it continued to operate for years to come.
In early 2013, and one of the first Weston Street vehicles to receive it, 69154 was painted into First's new 'Olympia' livery. It remained in this livery for the rest of its working life. Unusually, the vehicle remained at one depot for virtually its whole working life, keeping Bolton moving for 13 years with First.
In June 2019, First Manchester announced the sale of its Weston Street and Queens Road depot operations, Queens Road to Go North West (part of Go Ahead) and Bolton's Weston Street to Rotala's Diamond North West division. Unlike Queens Road, Diamond (in the beginning) did not buy any buses from First, loaning First's buses (on a 2-year lease) to maintain service whilst they awaited their order of 128 brand new Wrightbus Streetdeck's.
As the Streetdecks arrived, Diamond started sending First's buses back, the Enviro 400s and B9TL Geminis going first, cascading around First's Operation across the country. Diamond then started sending the B7RLES back to first, some going to Scotland, some Potteries (where 69154 ended up) and elsewhere. In late 2021, 69154, was part of the batch sent to Potteries to replace their existing 'non-standard' fleet of Transbus Enviro300s.
In June 2022, like most Euro 3 B7RLEs around the country, 69154 was placed on the scrap line, parked with ex-Manchester 69161, both destined for Barnsley... Until we stepped in.
On 20/07/2022, We went looking around 69154, and after many fantastic conversations with First Bus, We collected it on the 29th of September 2022, starting the restoration process.
