22086 MAN Mk2 ALX 300

New in October 2004 to Stagecoach Manchester’s Princess Road depot. 22086 or ‘Julie’ was shipped with a MAND0836 engine and a 4-speed Voith gearbox, which was the standard full-length single deck for Stagecoach from 1999 to 2007, before being phased out by slightly newer MAN18.240/50 LF Enviro 300s.

Although originally branded for the 105 ‘Skyline’ service between Manchester Piccadilly and the Airport, 22083 – 22089 transferred to Stagecoach Yorkshire in late 2006. The vehicle was re-branded to work route 222 between Doncaster and Barnsley in 2013.

The Manchester converts remained in revenue service with Stagecoach Yorkshire until their withdrawal in 2016, and all apart from 22083 (which was scrapped in 2017) were repurposed as training vehicles. They quickly became favoured by the instructors and 22086 was finally stood down in November 2025 due to the introduction of newer vehicles into the trainer pool.

22086 is suspected to be the only surviving Manchester Mk2 ALX 300. Work is underway to restore the vehicle as close as possible to its original state including beachball livery and original interior.
